Numenius arquata
Curlews are a group of eight different bird species, all of which are waders. This particular skull is from the Eurasian curlew, a widespread bird of Europe and Asia, migrating to Africa and South East Asia for winter, although in the milder climates of the UK it is present all year round.
Curlews are so named after their distinctive call, described as a loud 'curloo-oo'. There is little sexual dymorphism, with only a slightly longer bill in the adult female.
